Quick Stop: Pancake Rocks

Hungry, anyone?

On the way down the West Coast, headed toward Franz Joseph from Abel Tasman National Park, I passed through Punakaiki and saw the famous pancake rocks.

These curious limestone rock formations have been sculpted over time by the wind and sea. It has also been said that these formations are in danger of disappearing in the near future due to the same powerful natural forces responsible for shaping the limestone. Get more details about the pancake rocks and the surrounding area.

Aside from the pancake rocks, the drive from Abel Tasman down to Franz Joseph offered some amazing coastal views that definitely live up to the reviews found in popular New Zealand travel guides!
